One Leopard feature that I thought looked good when it was first announced was Safari’s Web Clip button. The idea is that you can turn any web page, or part of a web page, into a Dashboard widget. Apart from being clever, it sounded like the sort of thing that would be really useful. Then a couple of weeks after installing Leopard I realised that I’d never used it.
Fortunately at just that moment a need arose – England were playing cricket and I wanted to be able to quickly check on the score, who was currently batting and a few other salient pieces of information. So I headed over to cricinfo.com and found the relevant scoreboard. I clicked on the Web Clip button and selected the part of the page that had the information I was after. Then it was just a question of hitting the Add button, at which point a widget with just this part of the page was created on my Dashboard. Every time I jumped back into Dashboard the widget I had created was updated with the latest information. In short, it worked just as advertised. England even managed to win.
It really is quite clever. I’ll leave you to decide as to whether or not it’s useful…
